Utillian 721 versus Utillian 722

You may well have noticed that this convection vaporizer strongly resembles its predecessor. In actual fact, the Utillian 722 is nothing more than the improved version of its smaller brother: the Utillian 721. The differences at a glance:

  • While the maximum temperature achievable by the Utillian 721 is 215°C, with the 722’s boost mode you can reach a temperature of 225°C.
  • The Utillian 722 has a wider mouthpiece, an improved heating element and an insulated airway. This has considerably improved the airflow. Users report that the wider mouthpiece enables you to inhale even more smoothly.
  • The 722 has a stronger frame than its predecessor. This makes the vaporizer sturdier and gives it a more robust appearance.
  • No rubber coating any more.
  • Lowest temperature on the 722 is 180°C. On the Utillian 721 that was 170°C.

Directions for use

The Utillian 722 is tremendously user-friendly. Thanks to its spacious herb chamber it’s not difficult to fill it, empty it or clean it. What’s more, you can operate the vaporizer with just one button. This can be found on the side of the device. You activate the vaporizer by pressing the button 5 times in rapid succession. You can see that the vaporizer is switched on by the LED lighting on the top which begins to flicker.

You can switch between the different temperature presets by pressing the button 2 times. The colour of the LEDs changes to show that you’ve switched over. Once the light stops flickering you know that the required temperature has been reached. In addition to the fixed settings, you also use the boost mode. Read more about it under the heading ‘Boost Mode’.

The vaporizer switches itself off automatically if you stop using it for 5 minutes. If you want to switch off the vaporizer yourself, then press the button 5 times quickly in succession. Once the LED lighting goes out, the vaporizer is no longer active.

Very High Temperature

The Utillian 722 is a fully convection-operated vaporizer. You can adjust the device to 4 temperature presets. By clicking the button twice, the LED light changes colour and you can switch between the temperature settings. Each temperature is indicated by a different colour:

  • Green = 180°C
  • Blue = 190°C
  • Purple = 200°C
  • Red = 210°C

Boost Mode

In addition to these temperature settings, the Utillian 722 Vaporizer has a unique Boost Mode. Using this, you can increase the temperature to 225°C at any moment. Even if you are currently vaping at the lowest setting, the boost mode brings your vaporizer up to the highest temperature. This is handy, for example, if you’re at the end of your session and you want to get everything out of the smoking material in it. Just wanting to take a deep drag? Use the Boost Mode!

Use the Boost Mode by keeping the button pressed in for a few seconds. The boost is activated when the light starts to flicker red.

For Weed, Herbs, Hash and Dabs

The Utillian 722 is not just a simple weed vaporizer. You can vape practically all smoking materials with it. Whether it’s weed or another type of dried herbs, a nice block of hash or perhaps dabs/concentrates. This convection vaporizer can handle them all. If you want to vape dabs or concentrates, you should use the Wax Chamber that is supplied with it. But please note: If you’re going to vape hash, always use Vape Wool from Black Leaf. This stops liquid hash remnants from making your vaporizer dirty or even ruining it completely. Do yourself a favour: use Vape Wool (recommended products).

The Utillian 722 is highly suited to vaping hash because it can reach a very high temperature. Hash is particularly difficult to vape in a vaporizer. This is because it requires a high temperature. With the boost mode – 225°C – it’s bound to work for you.

Battery and Charging

The Utillian 722 convection vaporizer has a powerful battery which lasts for around 60 minutes. This gives you some 5 to 8 vaping sessions, depending on which temperature setting you use. You can charge the vaporizer with the supplied micro-USB cable. You can use this in any charger with a USB input.

Tip: do you want to enjoy your vaporizer for longer without there being a socket nearby? Take a look then at our Zeus Charge Powerbank (recommended products). When fully charged, this powerbank can recharge your Utillian 722 for up to 3 times. Handy for a day’s outing, on holiday or at a festival.

Design and Material

The Utillian 722 is made from anodised aluminium. The device has a sturdy frame and fits nicely in the hand due to its form. Both the herb chamber and the employable wax chamber are made from stainless steel. The mouthpiece is plastic. What strikes you first when you pick up the vaporizer is its weight. In contrast to other vaporizers it’s lightweight. But this is not reflected in the device’s quality. We might call it a true World Lightweight Champion.

Utillian 722 Review

Utillian is a popular Canadian manufacturer that makes vapes in the mid-price-range, which typically perform well and provide excellent value to the price. This new Utillian 722 is their flagship portable dry herb vape, and it has a few upgrades over the prev gen 721, such as better airflow and a higher max temp.

The U722 is a simple-use Convection vaporizer with four preset temperature levels (+Boost mode). It is also compatible with Wax & Extracts using the included oven insert. It retails for $149 from Vape-Smart, and coupon code TVG10 will save you 10%.

The Utillian 722 uses a familiar design inspired by the Crafty+ (Review | Buy). It is a square design, where the bottom of the vape is the battery & airpath, and the oven sits on top, covered by the mouthpiece (magnetic in this case.)

The exterior shell is made from anodized aluminum with a rubber coating, which I assume helps isolate and contain the heat. It also has a nice to touch non-slip feel to it. At the bottom, there is the Micro USB charging port and the air-intake hole.

Magnetic Mouthpiece

The mouthpiece sits on top of the device, and unlike the Crafty+, which uses a twist-open design, the U722 uses magnets to firmly hold it in place. It opens easily to expose the Stainless steel chamber. The mouthpiece part has a “straw” like an extension that can be folded away when not in use. Once again, this design has proven to work well with the previous generation (Utillian 721), as well as many other vapes (such as the XVape Starry. It cools down the vapor as it travels inside the mouthpiece.

Stainless Steel Chamber

The Chamber is made from stainless steel and has a capacity of around 0.3gr. The vape uses Convection heating, which has been improved from the prev version (721.) With convection heating, the heat is generated outside the oven (underneath in this case) and is then pulled into the oven with each draw. This heating method usually preserves the natural flavors of the herb and produce high-quality vapor.

The Utillians airpath is isolated from the battery and electronic components, once again as an attempt to keep the flavor as pure as possible.

How to use

The Utillian 722 has a one-button interface which is simple and straight forward. While it lacks precise temperature controls, it has 4 well-calibrated temp settings of (356°F, 374°F, 392°F, 410°F).

To use the Utillian 722:

  • Load with dry herb or wax (using the included insert). Keep the herb fluffy and do not pack too tight. Make sure that air can travel through the crushed buds.
  • Tap the button 5 times to turn on and the vape will start heating up. The LED will start blinking.
  • 2 Taps on the button will toggle temps
  • Once the LED is solid, the vape is ready to use. Inhale slowly through the mouthpiece.

Boost mode: Holding the power button for more than a couple of seconds will heat up the oven to its max temp of 437°F. This is a good way to finish off sessions or use with extracts.

Tip: while the 722 is compatible with both herb and wax, I recommend not using wax with your main dry herb vape. Wax tends to get things dirty and stick, which will increase maintenance and reduce longevity. I recommend buying a separate vape pen and for dabs and using this vape exclusively with dry herbs.

Heat-up time was around 40-60 seconds, depending on the temp settings.

Similarities: design, size, oven capacity.

Differences: design, price, heating method, temp levels, No haptic feedback.

Performance & Vapor Quality

When it comes to vapor quality, the Utillian shines bright. The vapor is pure and flavorful, especially compared to similar vapes in the price range. Convection vaporizers are typically a lot more expensive (Example- Firefly 2 is almost double the price), and the U722 gives it a fair fight when it comes to vapor quality.

The 722 produced thick, easily visible vapor, especially on the high settings. The second and third settings of around 390F were the sweet spot between flavor and vapor production, and that’s where I spent most of my time.

In terms of efficiency, the Utillian 722 did a great job of fully extracting the herb. After each session, the herb was brown and crunchy, which is exactly what we want to see. I often used “boost mode” to finish off my sessions and extract every last bit of active ingredients from my herb.

Battery: 2300mAh, around 60 min usage.

Bottom Line

The Utillian 722 is very successful in what it is trying to achieve- a simple use vape with great vapor quality and a very fair price tag. It may not have all the bells and whistles, such as a smartphone app or precise temperature controls, but it does have the most crucial element, which is the vapor quality.

It surely seems that Utillian has steeped up their manufacturing quality, as we saw with the recent release of the Utillian 620 (Review | Buy) and this current 722. Utillian are known to provide great value with their vapes, and the 722 is no different.
