Best Butane Torch for Soldering & Welding – Reviews & Top Picks 2020
Last Updated: August 2, 2020
Butane torches are an excellent portable solution for soldering, welding, and many more applications in the workshop or household environment. The cost of the torches themselves is significantly low for how useful they are. However, the main cost is in constantly needing to fill their butane tanks.
There is a huge range of different torches, and they all have some similarities, but their prices and attributes have enough differences that sorting through the lot to find which torch is best for what you need is a challenge. We have worked through the massive online range and written these ten reviews on the top torches available.
We have pros and cons for each torch, and explain what the majority of their users like and dislike about them. We hope these reviews help you with your search for a new soldering and welding solution.
A Quick Glance at our Favorites:
The 10 Best Butane Torches:
1. Blazer GT8000 – Best Micro Butane Torch
Blazer is one of the original butane torch manufacturers, and it has held the peak spot in the market for good reason, as it produces micro butane torches that other companies cannot compare with. The GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch is Blazer’s best torch to date, and it’s one of the most widely bought online.
It’s small and portable, with a wide base to sit safely on your bench without falling over, and it fits nicely in your hand for a comfortable grip. While it’s small, it has one of the largest tank capacities for micro torches, so you don’t have to refill it as frequently as other torches.
The flame has a wide adjustment range, from a fine knife-like flame to a broad longer flame with varying temperatures for enough diversity to suit most people’s needs. It’s safe to use, and it comes with an instant ignition system without a child lock, which is the downside to most other torches. While other torches are safer for kids than this one, this is the most user-friendly by far without lacking the necessary personal safety features all torches should have.
The only downside is that it’s been designed to take only Blazer butane gas, which is more expensive than ordinary gas. You cannot use ordinary gas in this torch, but for how effective it is, it’s well worth the extra cost of Blazer gas to have this peak-performing torch.
Lights easily High flame temperature Good flame adjustment Instant ignition system Wind-resistant flame
Only refills with Blazer butane
2. POWER PROBE Butane Torch
The POWER PROBE Butane Soldering Kit micro torch is a small pen-sized tool that looks pathetic compared to the Blazer GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch. However, it blows a 2500-degree Fahrenheit flame up to 1.25 inch long and can last an impressive two hours of constant use between refills.
There are multiple torch tips, including soldering and cutting tips that give it more diversity than almost any other torch on the market. Everything comes in a compact case with part-specific spots that ensure you know exactly what’s there and what isn’t, so you don’t lose tips or critical components.
This torch lights easily and has a good adjustment to the flame to provide the right heat for each specific user purpose. It doesn’t have the same strength flame as larger torches if you need to do heavy brazing or welding, but it works well for most applications.
Lights easily Small precision tool High flame temperature Fine flame adjustment Multiple torch tips Efficient long-lasting torch
Medium flame strength
3. Sondiko Culinary Butane Torch – Best Value
Sondiko’s Culinary Torch has been designed for kitchen use, but it excels across the board in all butane torch applications. It’s one of the lowest-priced torches on the market and is an effective tool for most soldering and light welding jobs.
It’s a simple torch to use, with a safety lock that doesn’t disrupt turning it on and off easily when you want to use it. The flame has a useful amount of adjustment so you don’t burn your whole project when soldering, while giving options for a higher heat input when you’re welding.
The base enables it to sit securely on a bench; it’s not as large and safe as the Blazer GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch, but it’s still effective. If you’re on a low budget and want an effective torch, this is the best one for your money.
Lights easily High flame temperature Good flame adjustment Wind-resistant flame Low price
4. EuroKitchen Butane-Torch
EuroKitchen has made an excellent tool with the Culinary Cooking Butane Torch. It’s designed for the kitchen like the Sondiko Culinary Torch, which gives it good safety features, but it’s an all-purpose tool that’s great for soldering, brazing, and welding. The torch doesn’t light consistently every time, which some people don’t like, but this hardly affects the user experience.
It’s a middle-of-the-range torch sitting between the Blazer GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch and the Sondiko Culinary Torch. It has some useful features other torches don’t have, while still being reasonably low-priced, and it takes any fuel, not just the branded torch fuel like Blazer.
The gas gauge displays how much you have used visually, so you don’t run out of fuel unexpectedly. It has a helpful base the torch sits on, but it’s quite small, so it can still be knocked over. However, there is a safety guard to protect your hand from the flame. It’s not always necessary, but it’s unique to EuroKitchen in keeping you safe.
It’s a very safe torch with an excellent safety lock that doesn’t interfere with lighting it easily. If safety is your priority or you have kids around, we highly recommend this torch.
Strong safety features Good flame adjustment Includes gas gauge Heat guard protects hands
Not a consistent light
5. IDEAcone Luxury Butane Torch
If you’re looking for an affordable torch that looks great and works effectively, the IDEAcone Luxury Butane Torch is an option we recommend. It doesn’t have the strongest flame among the available torches, but it works well for most applications.
It’s simple to light, and continues to blow its flame unhindered even when there’s wind around if you need to use it outside frequently. It has a flame lock, which stops the device from accidentally lighting if you’re transporting it or kids stumble across it.
It isn’t the safest torch available, as the safety lock is only a switch which is easy to turn on and off. But this makes it easy to use without struggling with a lock that hinders ease of lighting. If you’re on a low budget and want a nice-looking torch that’s easy to use, this is a worthwhile buy.
Lights easily High flame temperature Good flame adjustment Wind-resistant flame
Medium strength flame
6. Dremel 2000-01 Versa Tip Butane Torches
The Dremel 2000-01 Versa Tip is another pen-sized torch with a wide range of accessories to give you plenty of soldering, brazing, and minor welding options. It doesn’t quite reach the same temperature as the POWER PROBE Butane Soldering Kit, reaching a maximum 2192 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it’s effective for jobs requiring less heat, and it has a good range of adjustment.
This is one of the only torches available that can blow non-exhaust hot air without an external flame. This is effective for heat shrinking and light heating work around delicate objects that a flame is too hazardous for.
It’s a very easy torch or soldering tool to light and heat, and it heats up almost instantly when desired. It comes with safety features to protect the valuable components, but only has a small gas storage capacity. However, it still lasts for 75 minutes between fills.
Overall, it’s not the best torch on the market, but for what it’s designed for, especially soldering and blowing hot air, it’s well worth its price.
Lights easily Small precision tool Fine flame adjustment Multiple torch tips Can blow hot air
Small gas storage capacity Medium maximum flame temperature
7. Mdee Multipurpose Butane Torch
The Mdee Multipurpose Butane Torch is a smooth, simple-looking product with a heavy-duty structural case to handle more than most other butane torches. It has a strong wind-resistant flame that heats to the maximum butane burning temperature of 2500 degrees Fahrenheit, so you get the most out of the butane gas purchased to run the torch.
The gas tank isn’t as large as other torches, and due to the strong and effective flame, it doesn’t last long with constant use. The ignition is also weak, which makes it a pain to start at times. This is not always the case, but it is an area Mdee needs to improve.
Aside from these two issues, it’s a good torch for both soldering and light welding, and it’s among the lowest-priced torches available, making it a desirable option many people purchase.
Wind-resistant flame High flame temperature Good flame adjustment Heavy-duty structural design
Small gas tank Weak ignition
8. Inter Forte Micro Butane-Torch
Inter Forte has produced the Heavy-Duty Micro Blow Torch to look very nice. It does its job effectively in heating, melting, and burning what you need with its high-temperature flame and broad temperature range.
The flame is wind-resistant to ensure you have no problem using it outside, and the base is large enough to stop it from falling over when the nozzle is hot from use. What isn’t so good about this torch is the safety lock. Though it’s effective to stop kids from using it, it makes life difficult when you’re using the torch frequently.
Some people have trouble figuring out how to light it. Once you understand how it works, it’s still a frustrating way to start the torch, especially with continuous use. It also doesn’t light the first time every time. It does light right away sometimes, but it lacks consistency, which is a downside. It’s a nice torch if you have the patience to bear with the safety lock and inconsistent ignition.
Wind-resistant flame Heavy-duty structural design High flame temperature Large flame
Annoying safety lock Doesn’t ignite consistently
9. Dremel 2200-01 Versa Flame Butane Torches
The 2200-01 Versa Flame by Dremel has a stronger flame for heavier heating work, as opposed to Dremel’s pen-sized torch. However, it has a few downsides that put it in a lower place on our list.
It has a large flame with ample adjustments that are easy to get the hang of, but the flame temperature is the same as Dremel’s pen torch. It does produce a larger flame, but it burns for the same 75 minutes between refills and has fewer accessories to use with it.
The torch does cost less, but the safety lock makes it difficult to use, and the ignition is inconsistent. If you’re not careful when adjusting or replacing the accessories, you can easily break an ignition wire, which disables the ignition altogether.
While this torch looks great and performs reasonably well for certain applications, it’s one of the lowest on our list for a reason. However, if you’re careful and need a difficult child safety lock on your tool, this isn’t a bad micro torch to buy.
Wind-resistant flame Multiple torch accessories Broad and fine flame adjustment
Difficult child safety lock Doesn’t ignite every time Easy to break ignition Medium maximum flame temperature
10. InZaynity Luxury Single Hand Butane Torch
Last on our list is the Luxury Single micro torch from InZaynity. It’s a luxury-style torch with a few helpful features. However, it’s a low-quality option at a higher price than many other higher-quality torches.
It’s effective for soldering and light brazing or welding. It’s quite easy to use and has some adjustment to the flame, but the ignition lacks the consistency that’s necessary for a good user experience.
The flame temperature is slightly higher than the Dremel torches, and the flame strength isn’t too bad, but the torch overall lacks quality. Some of these torches work well, but many of them break shortly after people start using them. Again, it’s low on our list for a reason, but it’s better than many of the other torches available. If you like the look of it and don’t mind taking a purchase risk to see if it will work, it may be a good option for you.
Wind-resistant flame Looks attractive
Low quality Doesn’t ignite consistently Medium maximum flame temperature
While a butane torch can never replace an oxy-acetylene torch for heavy welding and brazing, it’s always handy to have a lighter butane micro torch for soldering and basic gas welding. Our favorite among the ten torches we picked for these reviews is the Blazer GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch. If you don’t mind paying a little extra for gas, this is by far the best butane micro torch available.
However, if you’re on a low budget and want the best buy for your money, we highly recommend the Sondiko Culinary Torch. It’s a culinary torch by name, but its diversity and effectiveness across the butane torch spectrum, along with the incredibly low price it costs, make it an excellent option.
Thank you for visiting our welding site and reading these reviews. We hope they’ve been of help to you and that you can find the best torch for your needs.
