APR bi-pipe vs RS4 TBB and pipework

APR bi-pipe vs RS4 TBB and pipework

Post by CliveH » Thu Jul 13, 2006 12:37 pm

My apologies if this has been done before (but my search didn’t reveal much), and also if it should be in Tuning & Mods, but this is specific to the B5 S4.

The APR bi-pipe seems to be a great and logical mod, which completely eliminates the S4 TBB problems. However, for the RS4 Cosworth came up with the metal TBB and aluminium pipes to the intercoolers (similar solution).

Has anyone done this? If not, is it because of cost or fitment issues?

Right Darren – so no fitment issues then or are you doing this as part of your K04 upgrade, involving other changes?

The APR is a single piece made from cast iron. This makes it harder to fit, has a risk of pin-hole leaks and it is quite heavy. I don’t know what metal the RS4 pipes are made of but it is 3-piece making it easier to fit, and it is probably a more robust set-up. Having said that I have had my bipipe for 4 years without problem.

The only issues I can THINK of are maybe Audi charge more for the RS4 parts (and if so that WILL be a rip-off), and do they fit the S4? I don’t know if there is an issue but certainly the RS4 has different intercoolers, so they may not fit the S4 intercooler pipes.
